It was June 10th and it happened to be Miss Nicola’s birthday so we decided to do a little Franschoek winter adventure.
Franschoek is located about 78 km outside of Cape Town, South Africa and is known as a little France.
After a beautiful drive we arrived at the famous Haute Cabriere!

The Venue:
As event planners we are always on the lookout for new spectacular venues to show to our clients, and wow what an amazing venue this was!

Nestled in the Franschoek mountain like a hobbit house, this gorgeous medieval themed wine farm is a must visit location! We would recommend this as a venue to most of our clients!

The restaurant is usually fully booked so an advanced booking is highly recommended!
We skipped the dining experience due to our reservation at another wine farm but we have included some foodie pics from their website and added them below, just to entice you.

The Tasting:
There are currently two wine tasting options, the 5 course or 7 course options. As wine lovers we obviously opted for the 7 course tasting option for R70
We weren’t disappointed! The wines were amazing! And they add a fantastic touch with the use of a famed French cavalry sabre – How fabulous!
We started our tasting with the Pierre Jourdan range of wines - a Pierre Jourdan Brut at R105 a bottle. This was deliciously fresh and would work wonderfully with a cheese course.
Second was one of the most spectacular wines we have tasted! The Belle Rose – this spectacular pink blush wine tastes as delicate and delightful as it looks! For R115 this wine is a keeper! Pair with a delicate fish.
Third was the fresh fruity Tranquille – an elegant blush that would pair delightfully with a salmon dish, this bottle goes for a steal at R50.

Next was our fourth wine, the Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2014 at R85 a bottle, which was in the Haute Cabriere range. This extremely versatile and popular wine pairs deliciously with a light chicken dish.
Fifth was the interesting Unwooded Pinot Noir 2015, at R85 per bottle. This was not our favourite wine but some may find it to their liking. This wine would pair with a Smokey dish or a creamy mushroom soup.
Sixth was the Pinot Noir Reserve 2012, packed with red fruity flavours we definitely preferred this to the previous wine. At R185 per bottle this would pair wonderfully with a delicious herbed pork loin.
Finally we had a taste of the Pierre Jourdan Ratafia, a fortified dessert wine. This was definitely a bit sweet for some of our liking but the rest of the table seemed to love it! So it really is up to your sweet tooth! At R80 per bottle this would pair with a simple palate cleansing desert such as a sorbet.
After we were full up on our delicious wine and laughter we hit the road again for a lovely drive. What wonderful Memories Forever!
We would definitely recommend a stop at this lovely little gem next time you are in the area!
